Does a great job with no hassle
By S. Albertini
I avoided food processors in the past because the food chute was always too small, the motor wasn't up to the job, and they were a pain to clean. My fiancé bought me this food processor as a Christmas present. I'm pleased to say that we're both impressed by its appearance, thoughtful design, and performance.

The brushed stainless finish is attractive and easy to wipe clean. The handle-in-front work bowl design is accessible to me (right-handed) and him (left-handed) equally. The machine doesn't take up a huge amount of counter space, and sits securely without "walking" or shimmying even when processing heavy foods.

The work bowl has a HUGE opening that greatly reduces pre-prep knife time. However, you are not stuck using the big opening all the time. The pusher has a smaller round "sub-pusher" in it that provides a smaller opening for holding long vegetables upright or for adding liquids while in motion. The lid is secure but can be removed and replaced easily. Everything fits stably and securely on the motor base. Work bowl, lid, and pusher work together to make sure you are not exposed to sharp edges or flying food (so long as you don't stick your hand down the pusher opening). At 9 cups, the work bowl is the perfect size (7 cups is just barely too small for good processing, I've found).

The first thing I made with the processor was a turkey salad with leftovers from Christmas dinner. Big chunks of onion, celery, and green pepper chopped evenly in a few pulses using the S blade. Big chunks of cooked turkey chopped evenly and smoothly without pureeing. The included spatula got all the food out of the work bowl quickly without making a mess. I made homemade mayonnaise (successful my first time ever with homemade mayo) according to the recipe in the documentation, and threw in some herbs to mince while it was processing. I sliced a cucumber with the slicing disk and was startled how quickly it went through.

My fiancé walked in and said, "Wow, are you already done with that? I didn't even hear you." (The machine is quieter than my blender.) While I plated the salad, he washed the parts quickly with a soapy sponge and was surprised how easy it was.

It's important to know that this machine will take the same blades and attachments as the 7-cup version (the Prep 7, DLC-2007N). It doesn't say that on Amazon's or Cuisinart's site or anywhere in the documentation, but it does mention in a hard-to-notice place on the side of the box that it uses 7-cup processor parts. The set includes a standard 4mm slicing disk and a medium shredding disk, but I've ordered the 2mm slicing and a fine grating disk and plan to order the egg whisk later.

EDIT: I received the two disk attachments, and they fit and work just like the disks that came in the box. This verifies that the attachments for the 7-cup model fit this 9-cup model too.

Good, solid, basic machine.
By Naomi Witzke
My first attempt at purchasing a food processor was to buy the $69.99 Oster. I did this because of the price. Predictably, it did not perform well and I had to return it. Perhaps Oster does better with blenders, I don't know. After doing further research, I was torn between KitchenAid and Cuisinart. There are hordes of loyal followers in each camp on this issue, and it was hard to choose based on reviews. I finally just went with Cuisinart, because it happened to be the model that my local store carried. In general, I'm happy with the product and would recommend it to other home cooks. I've only had this appliance a few months, and I don't use it every day. I probably use it once every couple weeks because it's only my husband and me so I don't cook for a crowd. I do love to prep a lot of food and then freeze it ahead because I'm a busy teacher, so the processor is a big help with that. If it were not so heavy and easier to clean, I'd probably use it more because this workhorse really gets the job done fast. Here are my observations based on what I've done with it so far:

It is excellent at:
Making breadcrumbs (both fresh and dried)
Mincing fresh herbs
Chopping/mincing raw and cooked meats (like whole chicken for chicken patties etc.)
Making salsa

Pretty Good/Could Be Better:
Shredding carrots, cheese (very quick and uniform, but some gets stuck between the lid and the shredding disc)
Grating a wedge of Parmesan (I put small chunks of it in the bowl with the chopping blade, as it shows in the DVD demonstration - and the result was coarser than I expected. In the end it melted fine in the dish I was making (lasagna), but it just felt like coarse sand to me when I was finished processing it, rather than soft powdery flakes like you get when you use the fine holes on the box grater. Still, it sure was a heckuvalot quicker than doing it by hand. I guess I'd do it again, as long as it was being added to a dish that would be cooked, like pasta. To make a pile of Parm to serve at the table or to add to breading, I would still use a handheld Microplane zester.)

Not Good:
Slicing green onion by the bunch (it pulled them under the lid rather than slicing)

Cleanup and Handling
It's a little finicky to wash by hand, because there are nooks and crannies for stuff to get stuck in. So far with a little effort and some strong jets of water to shoot into the cracks, I've been able to get it clean. It MUST air-dry, because there's no way to get a towel into the handle, where some water collects. If I had a dishwasher I think cleanup would be a breeze. So far I've only used it when I had a big job to do, because otherwise it's just quicker to pull out the old cutting board and knife or the box grater. They're easier to haul out and quicker to clean. Speaking of which, this processor weighs about 12 pounds empty, and in the summer the rubber feet tend to "suction" themselves onto whatever surface they're sitting on. Not so easy to lift this baby down from on top of the fridge, I discovered - and I'm 5'9!. ' I would recommend storing this at countertop level or lower, and then lifting with your knees to save your back and shoulders.

Final Comments:
I am happy with my purchase and would buy another Cuisinart if this one ever dies. I wish it shredded things without pulling them sideways under the lid, but that's my only complaint - and actually, it's only a small amount that gets pulled under. In the end, I'd much rather use this processor to shred several pounds of cheese than to use the box grater. I would recommend this size to a family of 4 and up - unless you're like me, and you like to chop a bunch of stuff at once and then freeze or can it. Good product, decent price for what you get overall.

Cuisinart stole my heart from Kitchenaid!!
By Karen H
I'm a Kitchenaid kind of girl, so when my husband surprised me with the Cuisinart Food Processor, I was faced with quite the quandry. I began to research both the Cuisinart 2011 and the Kitchenaid 760. The reviews pointed slightly towards the Kitchenaid so I figured I'd swap mine for it. I visited a local store to compare them in person and was so disappointed to realize that the Cuisinart fits together more securely and smoothly. In denial I stared at the blades for quite some time. Finally I had to admit to myself that the Cuisinart ones were heavier. They felt better and looked more solid. Oh how I tried to convince myself that the Kitchenaid was better. But I just didn't like how the top on the Kitchenaid snapped into place. It's not as smooth. The KA comes with more tools. Surely I'd end up with the Kitchenaid.

I went home and joined the online Kitchenaid Conversation Forum. Who does this? It's a group of people who post back and forth about their devotion to Kitchenaid. I begged Kitchenaid Rita to help me back on the righteous path.

Then I started using my Cuisianrt to test it out. I tried not to love it. I just couldn't help myself. It's so convenient to use. I started to think that the extra KA bowls might start to get on my nerves--always taking them in and out. I've made all kinds of things in my food processor. I made pizza dough. I can't believe I've been kneading by hand all these years. I made sweet potato chips; I made hummus and salsa... the list grows each day.

I actually use it all the time. And, it would be very much like me not to use it if it were at all hard to assemble or clean.

OK, there you have it. A perfectionist's testamonial and admission of betrayal. I do love my new Cuisinart 2011, and I feel guilty for ever having doubted it. And just last night my new TOB-165 Cuisinart Toaster Oven arrived. Review on that soon...

Home-made macaroni.

MACARONI RECIPES.

Home-made macaroni.
------------------

To four cupfuls of flour, add one egg well beaten, and enough water to make a dough that can be rolled. Roll thin on a breadboard and cut into strips. Dry in the sun. The best arrangement for this purpose is a wooden frame to which a square of cheese-cloth has been tightly tacked, upon which the macaroni may be laid in such a way as not to touch, and afterwards covered with a cheese-cloth to keep off the dust during the drying.

Boiled macaroni.
---------------

Put a larg cup of macaroni into boiling water and cook until tender. When done, drained thoroughly, then add a pint of milk, part cream if it can be afforded, a little salt and one well-beaten egg; stir over the fire until it thickens, and serve hot.

Macaroni with cream sauce.
-------------------------

Cook the macaroni as directed in the proceeding, and serve with a cream sauce prepared by heating a scant pint of rich milk to boiling, in a double boiler. When boiling, add a heaping tablespoonful of flour, rubbed smoothed in a little milk and one fourth teaspoonful of salt. If desired, the sauce may be flavored by steeping in the milk before thickening for ten or fifteen minutes, a slice of onion or a few bits of celery, and then removing with a fork.

Macaroni with tomato sauce.
--------------------------

Drop a cup of macaroni into boiling milk and water, equal parts. Let it boil for an hour, or until perfectly tender. In the meantime prepare the sauce by rubbing a pint of stewed or canned tomatoes through a colander to remove all seeds and fragments. Heat to boiling, thicken with a little flour; a tablespoonful to the pint will be about the requisite proportion. Add salt and if desired, a half cup of very thin sweet cream. Dish the macaroni into individual dishes, and serve with a small quantity of the sauce poured over each dish.

Macaroni baked with granola.
---------------------------

Cook a large cup of macaroni until tender in boiling milk and water. When done, drain and put a layer of the macaroni in the bottom of a pudding dish, and sprinkle over it a scant teaspoonful of granola. Add a second and third layer and sprinkle each with granola; then turn over the whole a custard sauce prepared by mixing together a pint of milk, the well beaten yolks of two eggs or one whole egg, and one-fourth of a teaspoonful of salt. Care should be taken to arrange the macaroni in layers loosely, so that the sauce will readily permeate the whole. Bake for a few minutes only, until the custard has well set, and serve.

Eggs and macaroni.
-----------------

Cook a cup of macaroni in boiling water. While the macaroni is cooking, boil the yolks of four eggs until mealy. The whole egg may be used if caught so the yolks are mealy in the whites simply jellied, not hardened. When the macaroni is done, drain and put a layer of it arranged loosely in the bottom of a pudding dish. Slice the cooked egg yolks and spread a layer of them over the macaroni. Fill the dish with alternate layers of macaroni and egg, taking care to have the top layer of macaroni. Pour over the whole a cream sauce prepared as follows: Heat one and three fourths cup of rich milk to boiling, add one fourth teaspoonful of salt and one heaping spoonful of flour rubbed smooth in a little cold milk. Cook until thickened, then turn over the macaroni. Sprinkle the top with grated bread crumbs, and brown in a hot oven for eight or ten minutes. Serve hot.

COOKING OF GRAINS

All grains, with the exception of rice, and the various grain meals, require prolonged cooking with gentle and continuous heat, in order to so disintegrate their tissues and change their starch into dextrine as to render them easy of digestion. Even the so-called "steam-cooked" grains, advertised to be ready for use in five or ten minutes, require a much longer cooking to properly fit them for digestion. These so-called quickly prepared grains are simply steamed before grinding, which has the effect to destroy any low organisms contained in the grain. They are then crushed and shredded. Bicarbonate of soda and lime is added to help dissolve the albuminoids, and sometimes diastase to aid the conversion of the starch into sugar; but there is nothing in this preparatory process that so alters the chemical nature of the grain as to make it possible to cook it ready for easy digestion in five or ten minutes. An insufficiently cooked grain, although it may be palatable, is not in a condition to be readily acted upon by the digestive fluids, and is in consequence left undigested to act as a mechanical irritant.

Water is the liquid usually employed for cooking grains, but many of them are richer and finer flavored when milk is mixed with the water, one part to two of water. Especially is this true of rice, hominy, and farina. When water is used, soft water is preferable to hard. No salt is necessary, but if used at all, it is generally added to the water before stirring in the grain or meal.

The quantity of liquid required varies with the different grains, the manner in which they are milled, the method by which they are cooked, and the consistency desired for the cooked grain, more liquid being required for a porridge than for a mush.

All grains should be carefully looked over before being put to cook.

In the cooking of grains, the following points should be observed:

1. Measure both liquid and grain accurately with the same utensil, or with two of equal size.

2. Have the water boiling when the grain is introduced, but do not allow it to boil for a long time previous, until it is considerably evaporated, as that will change the proportion of water and grain sufficiently to alter the consistency of the mush when cooked. Introduce the grain slowly, so as not to stop the sinking to the bottom, and the whole becomes thickened.

3. Stir the grain continuously until it has set, but not at all afterward. Grains are much more appetizing if, while properly softened, they can still be made to retain their original form. Stirring renders the preparation pasty, and destroys its appearance.
In the preparation of all mushes with meal or flour, it is a good plan to make the material into a batter with a portion of the liquid retained from the quantity given, before introducing it into the boiling water. This prevents the tendency to cook in lumps, so frequent when dry meal is scattered into boiling liquid. Care must be taken, however, to add the moistened portion very slowly, stirring vigorously meantime, so that the boiling will not be checked. Use warm water for moistening. The other directions given for the whole or broken grains are applicable to the ground products.

Place the grain, when sufficiently cooked, in the refrigerator or in some place where it will cool quickly (as slow cooling might cause fermentation), to remain overnight.

Fantastic kitchen machine!
By S. Saar
I love this machine. Really love it. For me, since I have limited storage space in my kitchen, the best "selling point" was that it's one machine with three functions: blender, mixer and food processor. It's easy to use, easy to clean (dishwasher!) and makes working in the kitchen easy and fun.

A comparison to the Artisan Mixer
By ut158
I already own a 5 Qt mixer from the "Artisan Series" but decided to upgrade to this model so that I could make larger batches of bread dough. For my recipe, a single batch is 2 cups of bread flour. I tried making a double batch (4 cups) in my new Pro 600, but after about 15 min. of kneading, the motor just turned off. I thought I had burned it out, but after consulting the instruction manual, it seems this is normal. Normal?! Yes, that's what it said--all I needed to do was wait for the motor to cool off (it's also "normal" for it to get so hot it is uncomfortable to touch) for 30 min. and then try again. I find it hard to believe that this mixer could make bread with 14 cups of AP flour, as the box says. Having said that, here are my thoughts on this mixer vs. the "Artisan Series" mixer I already own:

1. The motor consumes over 50% more electricity (and is certainly more noisy) in the pro 600, but how much of that is being converted to extra torque, I'm not really sure. What I do know is that I can only do a single batch of bread at a time in either mixer.
2. As has been mentioned in other reviews, the Artisan mixer came with a "coated" paddle and dough hook, whereas the pro 600 has "Brandished steel". This means the Artisan's implements are dishwasher safe but the pro 600's are not. I had assumed those bright, shiny implements that I saw in the store display were stainless steel, but I guess not. If it weren't for this problem and the huge price tag, I would have given this mixer 5 stars.

On the plus side...

3. I love the new spiral dough hook--it is much better than the C shaped one in my Artisan
4. The soft start feature is a nice touch. Then again, it would be even nicer if there was a speed lower than the lowest one provided.
5. The larger bowl is nice
6. There is more of a difference between speeds 7-10 than the Artisan

Things I'd like to see changed in the next iteration:
--A gear box. I have a cordless drill that has a high and low gear. As could be expected, low is for more power, high is for more speed. Why don't these mixers use a simple gear selector like that? This would be a HUGE improvement--it would not only provide more power, but the lower speed I would like, as mentioned in point 4.
--Stainless steel implements as mentioned in point #2

CONCLUSION:
A very nice mixer, but so is my "Artisan". If you are going to buy a new mixer (and don't have an unlimited supply of money to throw at it), I wouldn't recommend the Pro 600--get one from the Artisan series instead--it is much cheaper and does just about as good a job. There are small advantages to the Pro 600, but even all together, I don't think they are worth the added price.

SUPER but READ this important info BEFORE YOU BUY ONE!!
By Lynnster
UPDATE: 1/15/12: Please note that my original review was written in 2007, so serial numbers mentioned are different now, so unsure what has changed at KA. Hope all is good by now!

NEWLY EDITED 11/30/07:
IF YOU ARE ABOUT TO BUY a PRO 600 & you have done your research, you already know there is a plastic/metal parts issue, so PLEASE read my info: KA customer service KNOWS which Pro 600s have the metal transmission cover "fix" (via serial numbers), but some reps are refusing to give you the serial numbers to look for; but they might "allow" you to call them from the store with the serial number off a Pro 600 box before you buy to ensure it has the metal transmission cover. So, be insistent! Here's my story:
The first rep I called was a supervisor "Kelly", who refused to tell me which serial numbers to look for! Nice! I spent too much time researching ,so I called back & the next rep (Rachel) gave me her extension & told me to call her from the store & she would tell me if the one I found was made after the "fix". By the time I found one I wanted - at the second store visited - KA cust serv was closed. I bought it anyway, crossed my fingers, & called the next day. "Rachel" wasn't available, but another rep told me the serial number was one of the newer mixers I wanted. (pls read all the "negative" reviews here for good info)
IMPORTANT: This rep also gave me crucial I want to pass on as it's the info I tried to get before I bought my mixer - the serial numbers of the Pro 600 6 qt, 575 watt mixers with the metal cover "fix" (made from mid-April 2007)begin with numbers higher than "14" (my serial number is WU1503109, so it's above "14") Depending on the rep you get, only a couple are willing to confirm this info, so be prepared for frustration but just hang up and keep trying until you get a good rep.
ALSO IMPT: There are a few 6 quart KA mixers made - I am only speaking of the store bought PRO 600 6 QT, 575 watt mixer found in stores like Bed N Bath/Linens N Things. So, read all these reviews carefully & note the dates they were written - I think there is a possibility of people writing both pro & con reviews about 6 qt mixers that might be different. However, the plastic issue is the same, just the power would be different. For example, QVC sells a 6 qt KA mixer with a smaller motor, and there's a Williams Sonoma 6 qt mixer as well.
I wanted this powerful mixer as I have a 30 yr old KA mixer with a 250 watt motor, but it has a small bowl. My old mixer has never had a problem with a thick batter cookie I make every year at this time. I was anxious for the large bowl & to see how my new "workhorse" with its 575 watts would handle this batter because many have complained that it burns out on thick doughs/batters. UPDATE: I just made my thick cookie batter with my new 575 mixer & it did a super job!( My recipe uses 1 1/2 lbs of brown sugar, 8+ cups of flour, one pound of butter and 2 cups of Karo syrup - no other liquids or eggs so it's a tough batter for any machine) Once I began to add the flour (using the nice pouring shield) I never went above speed 2 (as suggested by KA for heavy batters/doughs) & speed 2 was all that was needed. A nice rep also suggested to rest the mixer if I needed to mix beyond 7 mins, but I never came close to that.
SIDE NOTE: when I opened the box last nite, the electric cord was folded in half & tied into a knot; there was a very sharp/jagged piece of metal on the lifting guide; a blob of dried paint on the top of the bowl holder; & bits of white crystals in the bowl that tasted like salt. Of course I called KA & Robert, with permission from his supervisor, offered a replacement immediately which I didn't ask for & certainly wasn't expecting! He said the "presentation upon opening the box" wasn't professional & they wanted to correct that. He also told me to go ahead & use this unit until the replacement arrives! WOW! Once it arrives, KA will send UPS to pick up the one I bought. Another WOW! I then told Robert about my Serial Number fiasco & he said that he would have provided the S/N info before I shopped! He also said that he stood by his fellow reps, but he agreed that someone like me, who had done hours of research, should have been given the requested info from the first call & certainly not have been forced to call from a store! In my case, I wanted a mixer made after the mid-April date which is the date KA began putting metal transmission covers on instead of plastic.
My WARNING: There is old stock, with the plastic cover, out there, yet KA still insists there is nothing wrong with this, so I'm giving you a big head's up..
Until I made my batter, I rated this mixer a 2 for the lousy customer service/runaround I got from 2 of 5 reps. Now that I've made my batter, I am vamping it up to 5 stars BUT KA needs to get more reps like Robert and the other guy who helped me. (If not for them, KA would NOT have this sale) So, while I wasn't treated right at the beginning, I am happy now & have edited my review accordingly. KA has quality issues re cust serv, especially supervisor "Kelly". (Try to avoid her as she thinks she works for the CIA.) I hope I have saved at least ONE person from all the frustration I suffered through to get what I wanted. In the long run, I think you'll be happy & customer service is great IF you get a good rep!

Product Info regarding gear housing upgrade from KitchenAid
By Living it up
Due to the very high number of complaints about the problems people were having with heavy duty tasks (which is what the mixer should have been made for!) due to cheap plastic housing holding the heavy duty metal gears, I contact KitchenAid to find out if this design flaw has been fixed. It has been and here is their response (note that they are saying that if you receive one of the models with the plastic housing they will replace it under warranty with the new metal housing. It is also important to note that the people who've had the problem have almost all stated that KitchenAid had great customer service and replaced their mixers with no ones with no problems.

RESPONSE FROM KITCHENAID: Thank you for visiting the KitchenAid website!

I would like to reassure you that our engineering and product teams have addressed the gear box issue. In fact, we have already implemented a change in the manufacturing of the Pro 600 Stand Mixers to a metal gear box. Although these will be changed out on additional 5 qt bowl-lift models that include all metal gearing, the time line on that is not known at this time. Although a transparent change, this will insure the long-term durability we expect.

I would like to emphasize to you that should you purchase a Stand Mixer (with all metal gearing) which has not been assembled with the upgraded metal gear box, and you should have a problem with your mixer (as a result of the plastic gear box (failure), we will most certainly extend your warranty to resolve the issue properly and effectively.

If you have additional questions, feel free to reply back to me. Or, you may contact either our KitchenAid Customer Satisfaction Center at 1-800-541-6390, or you may visit our secure KitchenAid Live Chat.

Best of the Best Blender's
By R. Taylor
Updated 02-02-2012 * Sugar free version added to recipe
I got this for my birthday from my husband and son, they are good boys! It was something we had looked at on the TV ads and kept thinking on and surprise, I did get one! I was so happily surprised with the way this contraption did absolutely everything they claimed on the TV ad, although we're not normally the infomercial buying kind of people, we wait for them to hit the stores to trek the "As Seen on TV Isle".

I always start off with a warning when needed, so WARNING, THE BLADES ARE FREAKING SHARP, My husbands already cut himself at least three times just barely touching them, always-always-always keep the blade locked inside the containers, the other pieces can float around your drawers or wherever you keep them, but the blades, keep them locked inside the pitcher/blender units. The Pitchers are also plastic, they don't mar or cut easily, but the blades can and will scar them up, so careful keeping your pitchers shiny and happy.

When washing, we place the blade in the dishwasher first, then the pitcher upside down on top of the blade, relative to which blade it belongs to, this keeps you from cutting yourself loading or unloading the dishes. You get the idea.. THE BLADES ARE FREAKING SHARP, AND THEY'RE EXTREMELY CLOSE TOGETHER SO IT'S VERY EASY TO CUT YOURSELF. It's like a saw, you don't grab it on the jagged side, and you don't grab scissors open and in the middle, so don't just go grabbing the blades here people, use the ends to handle it and keep yourself cut free.

Enough about the sharpness of it, because if you didn't notice, IT'S FREAKING SHARP, really now, moving on..

Construction: This is very well constructed, the grade of the plastics and the materials used to manufacture the Ninja seem very well made.

What you'll usually get the with the System, if it includes extras or perks you'll have to check the description or with the seller:
1 Large Pitcher
1 Small Pitcher
1 Large and 1 Small Very Sharp Blades
1 Large and 1 Small Dough Paddles (not sharp)
1 Small Dough Hook (also not sharp)
The set also includes Two (2) distinctive locking lids that cannot be interchanged, although they are identical in size I believe, each with spouts, the lid for the small pitcher has a strainer built in. The locking mechanism is very important if you have little ones, or a clumsy spouse, you want to store your blades inside their respective pitcher, I cannot say that enough.

Makes a fabulous Margarita, a Colada, any Frozen Alcoholic Drink this guy handles with a smile, Throw in your favs, add ice, blended inebriating bliss. For some of you this might be enough and you can just hit Buy Now, for others I've covered a lot here so feel free to read on.

We crush ice, I make slushies and snow cones for the kids sometimes, other times I just like the take of the ice alone, nothing added. There was a time there I was doing this daily at first, several times a day in fact, there is nothing like obliterated ice. It tastes exactly like snow! There is a drawback, you cannot pour obliterated ice from the pitcher, and the blades are extremely sharp and in the way, carefully remove the blade and scoop out the ice if that's what you'd like. Ice alone. For this and most drinks you want to use your Tall Pitcher.

I will warn you NOT to crush ice then add cold liquids, it needs to be one action, Ice + Liquid at the same time, otherwise, if you don't add enough liquid to your Ninja to the crushed ice then it will freeze together and make it difficult to remove from the Ninja and virtually useless to you because you've turned your "snow" into a block that's surrounded some EXTREMELY SHARP Blades, have fun thawing that mess out. There is one exception, an iced Latte or Coffee sort drink, using hot liquids, this wont freeze up your ice and liquid, that should be a duh there..
Remember: Hot + Frozen = blended bliss, Cold + Frozen = Nightmarish block of hell..

Speaking of making your own latte, read along 'til the end and I'll give you my very own Vanilla Latte Recipe, taste's amazingly similar to your favorite coffee shop on every corner, and this will cost you about $0.25 to make, I won't mention their name.

Making Guacamole, you want to be careful making dips or other things that are meant to have a texture that adds to the appetizing nature of the food, make sure you're not pureeing your foods. Texture is nearly as important as Taste is, unless of course you're feeding a baby and want to puree the foods. My husband pureed some Guacamole, it wasn't the greatest. Tasted fine, texture wise was too smooth.

Making Dough, for those of you that are Gluten Free using this to make your dough is amazingly simple. Especially when you're dealing with various types of flours and want to make sure you've mixed the mixture thoroughly. I've used many different recipes for Gluten Free mixes, including cakes, cookies, pancakes, and pizza dough, all turned out perfectly wonderful, well aside from the fact they don't have Gluten in them (which I terribly miss). Again, with baking too, textures are often necessary in the baking process, read the recipe carefully and make sure if it says the end result should be lumpy that it is.

We make quite a few things in our Ninja, things we would normally use a blender for smoothies (which we did toss out, rather donate, our Blender when we got the Ninja, I'm not a clutter person). Do exactly as it says, add frozen fruit, instead of ice and it taste's fantastic!

For you Gluten Free and Lactose Free people, we found using Coconut Milk (So Delicious or Silk brands) and a little Coconut Flour adds quite a bit of fiber and Coconut Sugar tastes fantastic too.. (both of which you can find at your local health food store, it is a little pricey, but if you're on this GF diet you know it's expensive). Add 3 Cups of Coconut Milk, about 3 Tbs of Coconut Sugar, a 1/4 Cup of Coconut Flour (for Fiber), and about 2 Cups (to taste) of frozen mixed fruit and you have a fantastic smoothie on your hands. * If you require a sugar free version of this, try using splenda or a generic splenda, I tried several versions of artificial sweetener and splenda by far was the nearest to actual sugar, the others were very bitter, one type gave me an immediate headache. As far as artificial sweetener measurements Splenda is one to one, others check the label.

This is MY Latte recipe, I didn't take it from any company, my comparison is simply that it tastes like a very well known brand. I do fiddle around in the kitchen and I do have a lot of great recipes I've come to love just by playing around with ingredients.

Vanilla Latte Recipe: 2 Servings, about 16 to 20 oz each +/-

Large Ninja Pitcher
Large Dough Paddle (Black one)
1/3 Cup of Ground Dark or Medium Coffee
2 Cups of Water, or to 4 Mark on your coffee machine
3 Cups of Milk
2 Tbs of Pure Vanilla, or imitation, it doesn't really matter
2 to 3 Tbs of Sugar in the Raw sugar, NOT HEAPING (we use nearly 3, about 2 & 3/4 Tbs), you could also use regular sugar, although I'm not sure what the variation would be, it's finer so be careful you don't make it too sweet.

In the Microwave bring 3 Cups of Whole or 2% milk to a boil, about 3 & 1/2 to 4 Minutes
Pour the Milk into the Large Pitcher
Add Vanilla and Sugar
Turn Ninja on DOUGH!!
** BE careful of the speed here, you will end up with hot milk shooting out the top if you use any faster speed** I will not be liable for failure to follow my directions.
Let that mix for about 3 to 4 minutes or while you brew your coffee

1/3 Cup of Ground Dark or Medium Coffee
Fill your coffee Maker with water to the 4 mark, which is I believe 2 cups give or take

Once you've Made your coffee in your Coffee Maker, and You've made your milk in your Ninja
Pour 3/4 to 1 Cup COFFEE (depending on your taste, start with less you can add more but you cannot take away) into each Cup
Open the Ninja and remove the Dough Blade leaving the lid off
Pour the Milk on top of the Coffee equally going back and forth between the two cups until you reach foam, then pour the foam equally into each cup spooning or using a spatula to get it all out and viola, Vanilla Latte.
* If you require a sugar free version of this, try using splenda or a generic version of splenda, I tried several versions of artificial sweetener and splenda by far was the nearest to actual sugar, the others were very bitter, one type gave me an immediate headache. As far as artificial sweetener measurements Splenda is one to one, others check the label. Splenda will foam the milk just as well as regular sugar also, taste is nearly identical :)

Careful, it is HOT!

Add more Coffee to taste if you want..

All in all the positives of this product outweigh the danger of the blades in my opinion, as long as you're careful, keep the blades locked in the pitchers at all times I think you'll be extremely satisfied with your purchase.

That's all I have, I hope to have helped you with your purchasing decision.
Thanks for reading!

Almost a Vitamix for $500 less
By Richard Patterson
I have had the Ninja 1100 for two weeks, and am very happy with my purchase. I bought the Ninja because my Oster blender doesn't have the power to do a good job crushing ice for frozen drinks or blend frozen fruit and ice into sorbets or smoothies. My brother bought a Vitamix, which does an excellent job, but at over $600 is WAY outside my price range.

Overall, the Ninja does a great job. The blender is powerful enough to turn a full carafe of ice into fine snow. I take frozen fruit (peaches, mixed berries) add a little fruit juice, ice, Splenda and yogurt to make awesome fruit sorbet for dessert - it comes out the consistency of soft-serve ice cream. It also makes some of the best frozen margaritas ever - smooth and icy, but you can use less ice because it is so powerful.

If you read some other reviews, you will see that there are complaints that the blender doesn't always blend everything perfectly smooth. The important word here is "perfectly" - it does sometimes leave small bits of ice or fruit. However, if "great" is what you are looking for instead of "perfect", you should be really happy with this purchase.

Wicked awesome
By Bradley P. Pederson
This machine is even better than the infomercial. I have owned 3 blenders in the past year - all junk from generally good name brands. Well, 3am feeding for my 2 month old son and ESPN channel on the bug and I am watching the Ninja. I have used it to make smoothies, malts and even a banana bread and this thing rocks! Ice truly does turn to powder. Clean up is a breeze. I don't generally like to share my opinion on these things but after getting shafted 3 times, I really feel obligated to let you know that this is one machine that is truly wicked awesome.

Amazon.com
KitchenAid's Artisan stand mixer is a substantial piece of equipment: 325 watts of mixing power make child's play of creaming butter, kneading dough, and whipping cream. The kid in you will appreciate how quick and easy it is to mix up a batch of cookie dough. This model comes with three attachments: a flat beater for making batter, meat loaf, and all textures in-between; a wire whip for egg whites, mayonnaise, and more air-infused creations; and a hook for mixing and kneading yeast doughs. All three are solidly constructed and easily secured to the beater shaft with a simple twist. This model also includes a pouring shield for guiding ingredients to their proper destination, and the bowl itself locks tight to the base. Standing about 15 inches high, jutting out a foot, and weighing more than a grown woman's bowling ball, this stand mixer isn't the sort of appliance you'll wipe down and put away. Better to find a square foot of free counter space for easy access; besides, this machine is as pretty as it is rugged--you'll want to show it off. --Betsy Danheim
From the Manufacturer
The Artisan mixer's strong 325-watt motor delivers the power to handle the heaviest mixtures, and mix large batches easily.
The 5-quart polished stainless steel bowl with ergonomic handle is big enough to handle large batches of heavy mixtures. Its ergonomically designed handle is contoured to fit the hand and makes lifting the bowl more comfortable.
Unique Mixing Action
The beater spins clockwise as the shaft spins counter clockwise; moving the beater to 67 different points around the bowl. This unique mixing action creates a thorough blend of ingredients and eliminates the need to rotate the bowl.

Multiple Speeds
10 speeds allow the user to select the right speed for the mixing job; from very high to very slow stir. It's easy to select the precise speed needed for a perfect mix.
Versatile Accessories
The flat beater, dough hook, and the professional wire whip add to the versatility of the mixer. The flat beater is the ideal accessory for mixing normal to heavy batters. From cake mixes to firm cookie dough, the flat beater mixes quickly and thoroughly.
The dough hook mixes and kneads yeast dough, saving both time and the effort of hand-kneading. The wire whip incorporates the maximum amount of air in whipped mixtures for fluffier whipped cream and angel food cakes.
All attachments are solidly constructed, and attach easily to the stand mixer.

Easy Clean Up
The pouring shield fits around the top of the bowl and prevents ingredient splash-out. The chute makes it convenient and easy to add ingredients.
The tilt-back mixer head allows for easy access to bowl and beaters. A lock lever holds the mixer head securely in place and the bowl fastens tightly to the base.

Optional Attachments
Optional attachments (sold separately) complete the package to make cooking a pleasure. From citrus juicer to sausage stuffer, KitchenAid stand mixers can handle just about any job in the kitchen.

Very Cool!! And more
By jen
All those cooking shows made me buy this. I have always admired these kitchen-aid mixers... but never thought I'd get THAT much use out of them. I watched a cooking show... where they made chocolate mousse. That was the last straw.
Now I can't say how glad I am that I got this! My cookie dough is done as fast as I can measure out the ingredients! I was too lazy to mix the dough well before... so I rarely made cookies. The first week this was home I made 3 batches of delicious cookies, an angel food cake, a meat loaf, mountians of whipped cream, and the chocolate mousse. Clean up is easy too. Plus this cool chrome-esque color looks awesome in my kitchen. Only now I'll have to join a gym.

Great Tool, but with minor setback...
By Jasmine Yu
I love KitchenAid mixer. I had the classic 4.5 quarts before and had a lot of fun with it. Great for kneading, making scones, etc. So, when I saw the 5 quart model on sale, I jumped at the chance to purchase it. Same as before, but only bigger, right? Well, it worked great until I realized that the dough was being left at the bottom of the bowl. So, I figured it's because of the height so I lowered it a bit. Now, keep in mind that nowhere in the booklet of instruction does it tell you how much the tolerance should be. I went to their live help to get that number which is 1/16". (Another advice: Use paddle attachement for the height measurement. Dough Hook will give you falst reading) So, here I go with lower height setting. I noticed that the top part would twitch everytime it kneaded the dough. After making the dough, I found a ground up spot on the dough hook and scratch marks on the bowl. I had to replace the dough hook but fortunately, the scratch on the bowl was minor enough. So, once again, I'm trying to knead something. I thought I heard some scratching noise again, so I raised the height about a half turn. Next thing I know, I couldn't lock the head in because nothing was lining up anymore. So, here's my recommendation: Get KitchenAid for it's an awesome gadget to have. But... DO NOT TOUCH THE SETTING ONCE YOU BUY IT. I put the paddle attachment and sorta got the 1/16", but it's not the same anymore... That's a shame, though, for such a great tool. I think I'll try to upgrade to the professional series where the setup is totally different and hopefully will have better luck.

Disappointed
By K
I purchased this mixer after wanting one for too many years to count. Unfortunately, I ended up pretty disappointed and returned it and purchased the 5.5 qt Cuisinart instead. First the mixer arrived with some minor cosmetic damage to it. Not a functional problem but still for the price it should not arrive damaged. Second it could barely mix a small batch of fondant for a cake, the motor was just not powerful enough. I do not know how it could have possible mixed a few loaves of bread. When I was done mixing the fondant I noticed the applied covering to the dough hook had started to peel off. Another small issue I had was the design of the bowl made it hard to scrape the bowl without hitting the beater and getting batter all over your hand. Not really a big deal but an annoyance. I really wanted to love this mixer but there were too many issues and I ended up returning it. I was pretty disappointed because I had heard KitchenAid is the best mixer on the market. I then read on cooks illustrated that the Cuisinart 5.5 qt mixer had beat out the KitchenAid Artisan in their tests. So with some hesitation I purchased the Cuisinart and could not be happier. If you plan on doing more than mixing up a cake mix occasionally I would highly recommend you spend the extra money on the KitchenAid Professional or try the Cuininart 5.5 qt if like me you don't have that kind of money to spend.

Powerful
By Wool
Powerful blender, had it for about a month. I've used the blender for large quantity smoothies and juices, single serve sizes for just myself, and the food processor portion to make various salsas. I've never had an issue with items not getting processed or cut down enough. The blender makes quick work of anything I've throw in there from frozen peaches, onion, to tomatoes. The single serve, pulse, dough, and blend settings are displayed clearly on the base. Locking suction cups hold the blender's base to the counter. I haven't made dough in it..yet.

I have two minor and I mean minor cons:
1) It's big, expect all the parts to take up cabinet space. Singel Serve cups, lids, large food processor, dough mixers, inserts, etc. The parts don't fit nicely together to compact the space it takes up.
2) Usually when you buy blenders and juicers it comes with a cookbook. It does come with a small book of about 60ish receipes and over half are smoothies. There is a cookbook available running about 20-30 bucks, but if you pay over 200.00 for a blender the cookbook should have been a freebie.

If you are looking for a powerful blender I'd highly suggest it, It's in a higher price range, but you get a quality product.

The Ninja BL771 1500 Watts Mega Blender
By Henry E. Davis
I had watched the infomercial for some months but was a little sceptical about what I saw, being aware of the cosmetics of some of these information videos. Nevertheless, I decided to give the blender system a try. So in December 2012 I purchased one from Amazon. It arrived sometime later, well packaged and in excellent condition. We looked at the infomercial again and doubted that it could produce dough in the time shownin the vodeo. Much to our surprise, it did just as demonstrated in the video. We have since used it for everything in the kitchen for many kinds of juices, ice cream, cocount grating and much more. We no longer use Lux or Kitchen Aid for preparing dough. The Ninja is much quicker. My wife who at the beginning doubted the capability of the system, now swears by it. We both agree that the Ninja Mega Blender, while an excellent addition to any modern day kitchen, will occupy the same place of honour in any commercial setting where food preparation is the principal undertaking. We love our Ninja system and ask,"Why was it so late in coming." One word of caution, though-the blades-, they are very sharp. So exercise due caution when you are washing then.

Good Blender but cannot do hot liquids
By R. Rollins
PROs: Powerful professional-style, blender for cool, cold smoothies/ concoctions. tons of options for juicing, food processing,
CONS: Not for hot liquids, can't even hack a couple days of blending coffees and cappuccinos. Not a glass blending jar
My wife and i were looking for a good verstaile blender for smoothies and bulletproof coffee, so we bought something that we were familiar with in the Ninja Mega Blender. We have some of the other Ninja products and they work great. So first, this blender is powerful and the set gives you a lot of options when it comes to blending, juicing, food processing, etc. It made peanut butter without a problem, it makes awesome kale shakes and protein shakes - the single serve containers are very handy.
Then we tried making what we really wanted it for - bulletproof coffee. You take 2 cups of hot coffee, 3 tablespoons of kerrygold butter, and 2 tbsp of MCT oil mix it in the blender (the butter and oil are not water soluble, so a good blender is needed - we also add cinnamon and pure cacao butter). So the first thing that happened is the seal on the airtight lid "fuses" to the blending jar - it actually got stuck and I broke the lid (I was able to fix it) - then the rubber gasket started melting and started to break and blend with my coffee; all this after less than a week. So boooo!
Its powerful and somewhat versatile, but not for hot liquids.
Awesome blender for everything but the hot stuff. We're researching Blendtec, since they have blending jars that can handle hot liquids.
